Residential Service Advocate 
Position Summary:  
Provides the delivery of quality residential services to adult and child clients residing in the safehouse.  Duties include but are not limited to crisis intervention, client support, and personal advocacy.​

Responsibilities:
  • Respond to 24-hour crisis line for domestic violence and sexual assault victims, provides crisis intervention to include empathy, support, information, and referral services.
  • Maintain the safety and security of the shelter building and residents during peak times of activity within the shelter.
  • Facilitate and encourage activity and communication between residents, which promote a warm, welcoming, and collaborative environment within the shelter.
  • Assist and facilitate goal establishment and accomplishment with clients.
  • Complete intake and exit forms and screening and assessment procedures with empathetic and active listening.
  • Complete all record keeping requirements including documentation of observations and units of service provided.
  • Complete daily charting and assigned documentation as outlined in Safehouse policies and procedures.
  • Provide crisis intervention and prevention by building rapport with residents and interacting in a caring, consistent, empowering manner as outlined in the Program philosophy.  
  • Provide knowledge and information to residents about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and its impact on victims, survivors, children, and communities.
  • Provides information and referral services to all residents regarding RAVE’s services and other community resources and agencies.
  • Promotes increased learning and teamwork to ensure clients receive quality services by attending and participating in case reviews and attending conferences and workshops as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of the safehouse facility through supervision of clients and general household management.
  • Participates in assigned community awareness activities which may or may not take place during regular business hours.
  • Monitor and perform safety and security and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively implementing program policies and procedures while working alone and utilize on-call supervisory staff when necessary.
  • Facilitate house meetings on a daily basis to discuss communal living issues and promote the empowerment of women.
  • Participate in trainings and program meetings.
  • Assist clients with accessing community-based services through information, referral, advocacy with housing, medical, transportation, and legal needs.
  • Participates in the overall daily upkeep and cleanliness of all space within the sheltering facilities.
Requirements of Work:
  • ​Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence and its impact upon individuals, families, and communities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and express facts and ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, volunteers and clients.
  • Excellent assessment and organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to climb stairs several times during 8-10 hour shift..
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. of weight, i.e. client bags, bags/boxes of donations, supplies and small furniture.
  • Must have ability to reach, bend, kneel, twist, and stand for periods of time during 8 – 10 hour shift.  In order to perform such duties as vacuuming, sweeping mopping, dusting, scrubbing, laundry.
  • Safely operate equipment including vacuum cleaner, computer, office machines, TTY machine.
  • Ability to implement RAVE’s mission and philosophy in all program activities. 
  • Will successfully complete staff orientation and training.
  • Must agree to and be able to participate fully in required pre and continuing employee screening and background checks, including areas of past and current employment, personal references, educational verification, criminal background, driving record and Central Registry Background or equivalent Clearance.
  • Have working telephone, valid driver’s license, and reliable vehicle with valid registration and insurance.​
​Desirable Minimum Training and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
  • Prior domestic and sexual violence experience preferred.
  • Must be committed to the concept of empowering women and children and be able to relate to women of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Experience providing services in a residential setting.

Sexual Assault Therapist  
Position Summary:  
Provides and coordinates the delivery of quality professional counseling and advocacy services to adult survivors of sexual assault participating in services and programs administered by RAVE-Ionia/Montcalm, Inc.  Duties include but are not limited to crisis intervention, individual counseling/therapy, support group facilitation, community education, emergency legal advocacy, personal advocacy as well as criminal justice support to victims of sexual assault.


Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates and provides individual counseling sessions.  Develops and implements client service plans which focus on goal oriented empowerment strengths based counseling offering empathy, support, advocacy, and education on the dynamics of sexual assault.
  • Coordinates and facilitates educational and support group activities for primary and/or secondary victims of sexual assault.
  • Provides crisis counseling, telephone or in-person crisis intervention, emotional support and emergency criminal justice support and advocacy to victims and their families.
  • Completes initial intake and assessments pertaining to safety, health and support systems, developing a personal safety plan with each participant.  Prepares client case intake file and makes appropriate internal and external referrals. 
  • Completes outreach, intake, and follow-up contact activities to referred victims and current program participants, promoting increased knowledge of resources, support systems and services for victims/survivors.
  • Prepares and records case observations, progress notes, service plans, and units of service, completing required statistical reports as required by agency policy and funding sources.
  • Personally advocates on behalf of victims to secure rights and services from other agencies and the criminal and civil justice systems.
  • Provides information and referral to all victims regarding RAVE-Ionia/Montcalm, Inc.’s services, other community resources and agencies, and public awareness about victim’s services.
  • Arranges for victims and their children to enter housing at a RAVE-Ionia/Montcalm, Inc.’s safe house, other safe shelter, or permanent housing.
  • Provides assistance in filing crime victim’s compensation claims on behalf of survivors.
  • Answers and responds to crisis calls.
  • Engages in legal advocacy activities on behalf of victims to obtain personal protection orders and other protective orders. 
  • Participates in assigned community awareness activities, which may or may not take place during regular business hours.
  • Promotes increased learning and teamwork to ensure clients receive quality services by attending and participating in case reviews, internal meetings and attending conferences and workshops as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
  • Participates and serves as representative to community groups and organizations.
  • Participates in staff on-call supervisor rotation.
  • Participates in the overall daily upkeep and cleanliness of counseling and supportive service spaces including office, counseling rooms and sheltering facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.​
Requirements of Work:
  • Knowledge of sexual assault and its impact upon individuals, families, and communities.
  • Ability to use critical and quick thinking to address crisis, on-going support and advocacy needs for program participants.
  • Must be able to work independently and function well under pressure.
  • Will read, understand and implement RAVE-I/M, Inc. policies and procedures related to providing quality services to program participants.
  • Must maintain a professional, courteous and helpful demeanor at all times when working at or representing RAVE-I/M, Inc.
  • Ability and commitment to abide by comprehensive confidentiality policies and procedures of RAVE-I/M, Inc.
  • Ability to express facts and ideas effectively orally, and in writing in a manner that encourages effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, volunteers and participants.
  • Possess assessment and organizational skills and be able to implement RAVE-I/M, Inc.’s Mission and Philosophy in all program activities and comply with RAVE-I/M, Inc. Code of Professional Practice in its entirety.
  • Must be committed to the concept of empowering women and children and be able to relate to women of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Previous experience in leadership roles desired.
