RAVE-I/M, Inc. is currently hiring for the following positions:
Chilren's Counselor/Advocate
Position Summary
Provides and coordinates the delivery of quality professional counseling and advocacy services to child clients participating in services and
programs administered by RAVE – Ionia/Montcalm, Inc. Duties include but are not limited to crisis intervention, individual counseling, group
facilitation, emergency legal and personal advocacy, and education and safety plan development.
Responsibilities
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in the positions of
this class.)
1. Coordinates and provides residential and non-residential individual counseling sessions to child victims of domestic violence and
sexual assault; develops and implements client service plans which focus on goal oriented empowerment strengths based counseling
which offers empathy, support, advocacy, and education on the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence.
2. Completes assessments and prepares client case file. Prepares and records case observations, progress notes, service plans,
and units of service. Completes intake, follow-up contact activities, and other statistical reports as required by agency policy and funding
sources.
3. Completes safety assessments and plans with each program participant.
4. Coordinates and facilitates educational and/or support group activities for child victims of domestic and/or sexual violence. Includes
facilitation of residential/non-residential parenting classes.
5. Provides crisis counseling to adult and/or child victims – telephone or in-person crisis intervention, emotional support and guidance,
including coping skills training to children/parents to reduce risk of victimization.
6. Personally advocates on behalf of child victims to secure rights and services from other agencies which includes facilitating entry of
survivors into safehouse.
7. Provides information and referral services to all child victims and their parents regarding RAVE-I/M, Inc.’s services and other
community resources and agencies.
8. Provides assistance to parent in filing crime victim’s compensation claims on behalf of child crime victims under the age of 12.
9. Engages in occasional emergency legal advocacy/criminal justice support activities on behalf of child victims of domestic violence
and sexual assault.
10. Promotes increased learning and teamwork to ensure clients receive quality services by attending and participating in case reviews
and attending conferences, trainings and workshops as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.
11. Participates in assigned community awareness activities which may or may not take place during regular business hours.
12. Participates and serves as representative to community groups and organizations.
13. Participates in staff on-call supervisor rotation.
14. Participates in the overall daily upkeep and cleanliness of counseling and supportive service spaces including office, counseling
rooms and sheltering facilities.
15. Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements of Work
1. Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence and its impact upon individuals, families, and communities.
2. Ability to use critical and quick thinking to address crisis, on-going support and advocacy needs for program participants.
3. Must be able to work independently and function well under pressure.
4. Will read, understand and implement RAVE-I/M, Inc. policies and procedures related to providing quality services to program
participants.
5. Must maintain a professional, courteous and helpful demeanor at all times when working at or representing RAVE-I/M, Inc.
6. Ability and commitment to abide by comprehensive confidentiality policies and procedures of RAVE-I/M, Inc.
7. Ability to express facts and ideas effectively orally, and in writing in a manner that encourages effective working relationships with
other employees, agencies, volunteers and participants.
8. Possess assessment and organizational skills and be able to implement RAVE-I/M, Inc.’s Mission and Philosophy in all program
activities and comply with RAVE-I/M, Inc. Code of Professional Practice in its entirety.
9. Must be committed to the concept of empowering women and children and be able to relate to women of diverse cultural and socio-
economic backgrounds.
10. Will successfully complete staff orientation and training.
11. Must agree to and be able to participate fully in required pre and continuing employee screening and background checks, including
areas of past and current employment, personal references, educational verification, criminal background, driving record and Central
Registry Background or equivalent Clearance.
12. Have working telephone, valid driver’s license, and reliable vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
Desirable Minimum Training and Experience
1. Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred in social work, counseling, criminal justice, psychology or other related field.
2. Previous experience and training preferred on the dynamics of domestic violence, its effect on children, sexual assault, and child
sexual abuse.
3. Previous experience and training in the provision of counseling, crisis intervention, and group dynamics.
