24-hour Crisis and Support Line

RAVE – I/M, Inc.’s Crisis and Support Line offers victims of domestic and sexual
violence immediate assistance, crisis intervention, support and information, and
referrals.  The crisis line is connected to both the National Domestic Violence
Hotline as well as the National Sexual Assault Hotline which operates 24 hours a
day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.  Access to our shelter and/or
counseling services can be done through the crisis line at any time.  

Emergency Shelter
RAVE – I/M, Inc.’s shelter is designed to protect women and children from abusive
living situations and assist homeless women and their children find a safe,
affordable and permanent home.  One can access the shelter 24 hours a day, seven
days a week.  While staying at the shelter counseling and advocacy opportunities
are available.  Some of the services include: crisis intervention, case management,
children’s counseling, support groups, counseling, legal advocacy, support and
safety planning.

Counseling Program
The non-residential Counseling Program is designed to provide adult victims of
domestic and sexual violence confidential counseling services.  Our trained
counselors provide victims the opportunity to talk, express their feelings and
emotions, reflect and ask questions on the issues surrounding their situation. The
counselors will meet with the victims, survivors, and their loved ones at any stage of
the crisis or healing process.  Our program focuses on an educational component
of violence covering topics like: The Dynamics of Domestic and Sexual Violence,
Power and Control, Types of Abuse, Stages of Healing, Safety Planning, Available
Resources, Drug Facilitated Rape and Coping with Flashbacks.  All our services are
free and confidential.  

Children’s Services
This program is designed to provide children who experience and/or witness
domestic and sexual violence an opportunity for healing.  The program is designed
for children 4 to 17 years of age.  Counselors who specialize in either domestic
violence or sexual assault meet with the children and provide counseling or therapy.  
Our counselors use a variety of techniques when working with children.  Some
would include Play Therapy and the use of Art.  The counselor provides the child with
supportive listening, the expression of feelings, ways to deal with the trauma, safety
plans, communication techniques and positive coping mechanisms.   

Advocacy Services
Our advocates are available to assist clients with a variety of needs; our legal
advocate can assist and support victims through a variety of legal proceedings,
criminal and civil, PPO hearings, attorney appointments, divorce and child custody
hearings, appointments with Prosecutor’s Office, Friend of the Court, etc. An
advocate can also assist and support victims at appointments with other community
agencies, such as: Department of Human Services, community mental health,
medical appointments, schools, housing, etc.

Domestic Assault Response Advocacy Team (DARA)
The DARA team is a group of volunteer advocate who respond to the secure scene
of a domestic and/or sexual assault.  This project is a joint effort between RAVE-I/M.
Inc., the Ionia and Montcalm County Prosecutors and the Ionia and Montcalm County
Sheriff Departments.  The advocates are dispatched through law enforcement
officers and are trained to provide on the scene emergency crisis intervention to
victims immediately after an assault.  The DARA advocate provides an array of
services that include: Crisis Counseling, Safety Planning, Emergency
Transportation and Prosecution Assistance.

Community Education and Prevention
Trained educators are available to provide presentations to law enforcement
agencies, middle and high schools, local service groups, human service agencies
as well as to the general public.  Presentations or trainings range from very brief to
all day.  Topics include: Healthy Relationship and Partner Violence, Rape and
Sexual Assault Prevention Education, Drug Facilitated Rape Vulnerability, Domestic
Violence 101, Sexual Assault 101, Effects of Domestic Violence on Children and
Characteristics of Batterers.    

Transitional Housing Program
RAVE-I/M, Inc. assists homeless individuals with finding and securing permanent
housing. We offer participants with rental assistance, utility assistance, resources,
advocacy, referrals and support.  This program assists anyone who is homeless or
in danger of becoming homeless or may have barriers that prevents one from
securing housing.  

Support Groups
RAVE offers multiple support groups for residential and non-residential clients.  
Our residential support groups include a Domestic Violence Support Group, Sexual
Assault Support Group, Parenting Support Group, a Legal Support Group and a
Children’s Activity Group.  
Our non-residential support groups include:
Heal Out Loud – Women coping, growing and healing together
The Heal out Loud group is an open support group for domestic and sexual violence
survivors that meets weekly and covers a variety of topics from the effects of abuse
on children to communication.

Community Support Group for Incarcerated Women
This group is a support group that is held at two local jails and provides the women
information and education on healthy relationships, coping skills and a variety of
other topics.  This group is held weekly.  

Healthy Relationships Educational Group
This group is held weekly at the local drop in center location which is operated by
Ionia County Community Mental Health.  The Healthy Relationship group is open to
anyone interested and discusses characteristics of a healthy relationship,
boundaries and individual roles within a relationship.

Positive Parenting Support Group
The Positive Parenting group is a closed group for parents who have been affected
by abuse and who are looking for additional support in parenting their children.  We
cover communication, behavioral issues, self esteem, discipline and respecting
feelings.
